Manufacturing / Operations Manager

Description:
Reporting directly to the plant manager and as a key member of the site’s lean leadership team, the operations managers’ role is to provide direct management and leadership of planning, logistics, supply chain, materials, and manufacturing functions. The Manager also partners with corporate resources in supporting the finance and human resources functions. The Manager’s key challenge is balancing workforce and schedule to meet production, quality, cost and delivery targets. Each order may be a new design with a corresponding learning curve. The customer base, both military and commercial, varies depending upon spending patterns. The technical nature of the product, the quality of the design and availability of materials significantly impact the Manager’s ability to meet scheduled targets. Critical skills include people management, lean manufacturing, and exceptional cross functions coordination. The Manager works closely with teams in the Pennsylvania and New Hampshire locations.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Manage the control and movement of materials in and out of the manufacturing process.
  • Ensure adequate and timely supplies of purchased materials while maintaining acceptable inventory turns and purchase price variance (PPV).
  • Manage vendors and subcontractors to expedite material and to purchase ready made items to level load production demand and to optimize quality and delivery metrics.
  • Ensure continued improvement of day to day tactical efforts as well as establishing and developing strategic procurement initiatives.
  • Participate in preparation of forecasts, capacity planning, material capacity, and ECO implementation.
  • Analyze inventory and delivery issues and provide solutions.
  • Active in cost reduction, standardization, and determining ERP system protocols.
  • Organize and direct workflow to satisfy production demand in a cost-effective manner, reduce past dues and increase on time delivery through proper utilization of equipment and personnel available.
  • Establish and control conditions of production to satisfy quality and customer specifications as well as governmental standards where applicable through analysis of equipment and materials utilized and adherence to standards is established.
  • Maintain employee morale and safety by creating an efficient and safe working environment, which complies with OSHA standards as well as our internal standards.
  • Develop and motivate cost effective improvements and alternatives to production process through analysis of available information such as yields, machine utilization, employee productivity, overhead costs, through automation where feasible.
  • Maintain proper staffing levels to satisfy production requirements through interviewing, selection and training of personnel. Establish effective interdepartmental communication for the purpose of providing feedback, maintain quality standards, investigating process problems, and resolving employee relation issues.
  • Investigate and analyze new processes and coordinates, where feasible, opportunities for increased efficiencies.
  • Supervise the activities of small supervisory staff and direct labor employees.
  • Manages the purchasing, inventory control, and distribution functions as well the production scheduling process for multiple manufacturing areas.
  • Interfaces with product line managers on the planning and forecasting of customer orders to meet shipments.
  • Performs analysis of materials and determines optimum control levels.
  • Ensures that orders arrive and are dispatched on time to the appropriate destinations and in the expected quantities. Responsible for managing the interdepartmental and intra-organization transport of materials.

Requirements

  • This job requires access to technology, materials, software, or hardware that is controlled by the export laws of the United States. Candidates are required to provide proof of either US citizenship, Permanent US residency, or classification as a protected individual as defined in 8 USC 1324b(a)(3).
  • Experience in the aerospace, defense, medical, or automotive industries, especially working at a component level is desired.
  • Experience with integrated ERP systems required.
  • Strong background in all areas of managing the supply chain day to day responsibilities in a manufacturing facility.
  • Knowledge of mil-standards required.
  • Proven decision making and leadership skills
  • Experience within high reliability environments and with precision high tech devices preferred.
  • Experience with lean technology and six sigma.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Business, Engineering, or related field.

Global Component Engineer

Description:
The Global Component Engineer is responsible for performing Component Engineering duties in support of new and existing products. This position is located in our Hudson, New Hampshire headquarters but has responsibilities to all Vectron sites. Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Owner of the Approved Manufacturers List and Approved Vendor List.
  • Identifying and promoting the use of preferred components. (Preferred Parts List - PPL)
  • Assisting Global Commodity Managers in the search and qualification of new suppliers
  • Assisting Purchasing in reviewing opportunities for part substitutions and alternatives.
  • Assisting Design Engineering and Manufacturing with application, qualification, selection of new and existing parts, includes active parts, passive parts, PWB’s, board level connectors and other related materials used in electronics manufacturing.
  • Performing as a necessary part research, part data review and qualification, part number assignment and data entry, and part specification coordination.
  • Assisting in developing supplier quality programs for related commodities.
  • Acting as a liaison between the Supply Chain team and the Engineering team, interpreting and developing specifications.
  • Traveling to suppliers periodically to assess capabilities and fit

Requirements and Competencies:

  • BS in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Three to five years experience with complex electronic systems manufacturing.
  • Analytic, detail-oriented and quantitative analysis skills.
  • Independent / Self-Motivated
  • Experience in statistical methods, Statistical Process Control (SPC), ISO 9000, and quality standards.
